Frankie Beverly will also be honored!
Prince is set to be honored by the Recording Academy with the Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award, Fox 5 DC reports. The music icon passed away tragically in 2016 and is set to receive the posthumous honor for his immense contributions to the music world. A seven-time Grammy Award winner, Prince has sold more than 150 million records worldwide and had three albums inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, including, “Purple Rain,” “1999,” and “Sign of the Times.”
The Lifetime Achievement Award is given by The Recording Academy’s National Trustees, who vote for honorees who “during their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording.”
Prince is widely considered one of the greatest artists of all time. One of 7 honorees, Prince will be posthumously honored alongside the late Frankie Beverly, Dr. Bobby Jones, Taj Mahal, The Clash, Frankie Valli, and hip hop pioneer Roxanne Shanté.
The Recording Academy will hold a Special Merit Awards Ceremony the day before the 67th Grammy Awards to bestow the Lifetime Achievement Award honors at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles on February 1st.
