They’re putting on for HBCUs!

Southern University’s world-renowned “Human Jukebox” is set to make history again as the headliner of the Super Bowl LIX pregame show, Black Enterprise reports. The beloved marching band from the prestigious HBCU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has captivated audiences for decades. Now, they’re bringing their signature energy and show-stopping performances to one of the biggest stages in sports.

The exciting announcement was made on February 4th by the band’s director, Kendric Taylor, during a special performance on the Jennifer Hudson Show. The “Human Jukebox” thrilled the live audience with their unparalleled musical prowess before dropping the major news.

“The history of this band goes on for many years. This band has been on many platforms — the Super Bowl seven times, three presidential inauguration parades,” Taylor proudly shared. “This is something that nobody knows. We’re going to tell it here on air — we’re going to be at the Super Bowl — headlining. The Southern University Human Jukebox — the pregame.”

Jennifer Hudson, visibly thrilled, cheered, “Y’all better work, oh my goodness!” as she celebrated the band’s major milestone.

For years, the “Human Jukebox” has been a household name, known for its electrifying performances and ability to blend classic and contemporary hits with the soulful spirit only an HBCU can capture. The band features 300 dedicated student musicians and the beloved “Fabulous Dancing Dolls,” consistently delivering breathtaking performances that leave audiences in awe.

Recently, the “Human Jukebox” represented HBCU excellence on the West Coast, competing in the first-ever West Coast HBCU Battle of the Bands alongside Alabama A&M, Hampton, and North Carolina A&T University. The event, hosted by Nick Cannon, underscored the power of HBCU unity and the cultural impact of these legendary bands.

“And that’s what this (HBCU) culture has always done in times of hardship, is come together and unify,” Cannon expressed. “So the fact that we can be a beacon in that setting, in [Los Angeles], right now that probably matters the most, or needs it the most.”

This isn’t the first time Southern University has wowed audiences on a national stage. Earlier this year, the band made waves at the 2025 Rose Parade in Pasadena, California. Now, they’re gearing up to take the “Big Game” by storm, bringing HBCU pride to millions of viewers worldwide.

With this monumental Super Bowl performance, the “Human Jukebox” isn’t just making history; they’re spreading awareness of the rich legacy and cultural impact of HBCUs everywhere. And that, without a doubt, is something to celebrate!
