As a quarterback Russell Wilson knows his success wouldn’t be possible without the protection of his offensive linemen. He also knows the importance of saying “thank you.”
To recognize his teammates for their hard work on the field, TMZ reports that Wilson spent $156,000 to gift his offensive line with stock in Amazon.
The future hall-of-famer recently secured a 4-year contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks that made him the highest paid player in the NFL.
Wilson sent 13 players a letter explaining the gift and his rationale for it. It read as follows:
Every Sunday we go to battle together.
You sacrifice your physical and mental well-being to protect, which in turn allows me to provide and care for my family. This does not go unnoticed and is never forgotten.
Now it is my turn to return the favor. I would not be where I am today without you working to be great day in and day out. When I sat down to think about ways to honor your dedication, a dozen different ideas came to mind. Some were flashy, some were cool, but I wanted to give you something that has lasting impact. Something that would affect the lives of you, your family and your children.
We all have dreams of what we can build and accomplish off the field. One important lessons I have learned thus far in my career: The memories on the field will last forever, but we have to constantly prepare for life after football.
One of the ways I prepare is by investing in companies and ideas I believe will grow and change the world. One of these companies is Amazon.
I am gifting you and your family $12,000 worth of Amazon stock to help you achieve your dreams.
You have invested in my life… this is my investment in yours.
From my family to yours. We are forever grateful.
This gesture was a great show of leadership that is sure to pay off both on and off the field!
