We can’t let this day end without honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Maya Angelou. April 4, 1968 marks the day that Dr. King was assassinated. It is also the day that Maya Angelou was born. At the time she was celebrating her 40th birthday.
“I couldn’t believe that this great man, this great dream, this great dreamer, this person who dared to love everybody, could be killed before he could realize his dream,” she said in an interview before her passing.
Angelou and King’s widow, Coretta Scott King, went on to send each other flowers on April 4th for the next 30 years.

Today we remember and honor them both for their example, their dreams and the indelible mark they made on this world.
