We’re still paying homage to the Queen!
In celebration of what would’ve been Tina Turner’s 84th birthday on November 26th, TidalWave Comics released a new comic book honoring the Queen of Rock and Roll, Black Enterprise reports. The new comic book uniquely honors the songstress’s life and legacy, highlighting her musical achievements, personal victories, and life challenges. The book is a part of the publisher’s “Tribute” series, which spotlights the enormous achievements of cultural heroes.
“The Tribute comic book series is dedicated to preserving the legacies of beloved entertainers who have left us. It serves as a heartfelt tribute to those individuals who have left an indelible mark on our world,” TidalWave publisher Darren Davis told reporters.
The comic book, “Tribute: Tina Turner,” was released on Black Friday and commemorates the trailblazer’s life. Authored by Michael Frizell, the narrative takes readers on a journey through Turner’s artistry, resiliency, and post-divorce career. Turner passed away in May at the age of 83, leaving behind her loving husband and partner of more than three decades and a host of friends and mourning fans.
The Tennessee native had a thriving five-decade career in the industry, reinventing herself as a solo artist after a tumultuous marriage and business relationship with her first husband, Ike Turner. She bravely spoke out about her life as a domestic abuse survivor and touched the hearts of millions in the process. She sold 200 million records worldwide and retired from music in 2009. Turner spent the latter half of her career inspiring others through her books, Buddhist lifestyle, and Broadway play. Still, she holds one of the greatest biographical films to date and made history as only the second woman to be inducted twice into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
“It’s bittersweet to write about the loss of Tina Turner because I grew up admiring her and listening to her music. Her ability to engage concertgoers and listeners is unmatched,” said Frizell.
Turner now joins other beloved entertainers featured in TidalWave’s Tribute series, including Prince and Whitney Houston. The 22-page “Tribute: Tina Turner” comic book is available for purchase now in both hardcover and paperback editions.
