She now joins past honorees like Walt Disney & Oprah Winfrey!

Viola Davis has been named the 2025 Cecil B. DeMille Award honoree at the 2025 Golden Globes, Variety reports. Named for director Cecil B. DeMille in 1952, the award honors Hollywood icons who have contributed to the industry in remarkable ways. Davis earned her first Golden Globe award in 2016 for her role as a supporting actress in Denzel Washington’s “Fences.” Davis is the most nominated Black woman in Oscar history and one of only a handful of actors to achieve the coveted EGOT status.

Viola Davis is a luminary whose profound talent has continuously shifted the lens through which we see and understand film. Presenting her with the 2025 Cecil B. DeMille Award is not only an honor but a reflection of our admiration for her relentless dedication to her craft and her monumental impact on the industry. Viola’s courage in portraying complex, powerful characters has broken barriers and paved new paths, making her an emblem of excellence and an ideal recipient of this prestigious award,” said Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne.
