Just in time for the holiday season!
Whoopi Goldberg is returning to the stage, joining the cast of “Annie” the musical this winter, ABC News reports. The EGOT-winning actress and co-host of “The View” announced her return to the theater, set to play Miss Hannigan in the New York City run of “Annie” showing at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.
“I love the theatre, and in my mind, there is no better way to spend the holidays than to get back on stage. I can’t wait to step in to the delicious role of Miss Hannigan and perform for the greatest audiences in the world — in my hometown of New York City,” said Goldberg.
Miss Hannigan is the beloved antagonist in the classic “Annie” story. The story has had two Broadway runs and three separate films, and it has been a mainstay for generations of families. Miss Hannigan runs the orphanage where the main character, Annie, lives, and Goldberg is expected to shine in the role.
Jenn Thompson, who played Pepper in the original “Annie” production, will direct. The show will run for three weeks at The Chicago Theatre from November 12th to December 1st before heading to New York City, where it will star Goldberg from December 4th through January 5th.
