His story is made for TV!
A new competition series hosted by a teen cookie baker is in the works, Deadline reports.
Cory Nieves is a baker and the founder of Mr. Cory’s Cookies, a company he started in 2010 when he was only 6 years old. Motivated by wanting to buy a car instead of taking the bus to school, Cory enlisted his mom’s help to start selling hot cocoa to residents in his neighborhood of Englewood, New Jersey. His mother Lisa supported him from the beginning, urging him to keep selling cocoa as a way to save money for college. Cory did, eventually expanding to lemonade and then cookies.
Now, more than a decade later, Cory and his mom have a budding empire, appearing on shows like Ellen and MasterChef Jr. and expanding their brand and their imprint to work with a number of high-profile companies including Mercedes-Benz, Ralph Lauren, Macy’s, and Whole Foods. Now the teen is getting his own television show, a competition reality series where he’ll serve as host.
The new series comes from Intentional Content (Rachel Ray’s Renovation Rescue) and Wise Miller Production’s DeWanda Wise and Alano Miller, a husband-wife acting duo dedicated to telling Black stories as actors and producers. The two companies are merging to develop a variety of unscripted content with Cory’s series set to be first up.
“This collaboration with DeWanda and Alano is the first of several between our two companies as Intentional pushes further into the development of multicultural and representational content. It certainly makes that push easier when working with someone as dynamic as Cory Nieves,” said Sean Lee, a partner with Intentional.
Brian Flanagan, who will serve as executive producer alongside Lee for Intentional, echoed those sentiments, saying, “From the moment Alano approached me about developing a show around Mr. Cory, we were all in. Mr. Cory is an amazing American success story, and we couldn’t have better partners as we bring this project to market than Wise miller Productions.
Lee and Flanagan will executive produce for Intentional Content alongside Anthony Amoia with Wise and Miller working in partnership with creators David Magidoff and Austin Flack. Miller said that the partnership was a no-brainer, and they are all excited to bring Cory’s story to the screen.
“When we looked at the kind of work Brian and his company was producing in the food content space, we knew Intentional was the right partner for Wise Miller and Mr. Cory. Mr. Cory belongs on television, and it’s stories like his that we want to share,” said Miller.
No word yet on when the series will air, but we can’t wait!
