She’s doubling down on her commitment!
Allyson Felix is the most decorated woman track and field Olympian ever, boasting 11 Olympic medals, including seven gold, the most ever by any female track and field athlete. Retiring from the sport in 2022, Felix had become a staunch advocate for women’s rights and maternal health towards the end of her career, after the birth of her own child. Now, the 38-year-old is returning to the Olympic stage, but this time for a different reason. Felix has teamed up with Pampers to create the first ever nursery for mom athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics, USA Today reports.
“I just knew how difficult it was to compete at the top level after I had my daughter, and some practical things were really hard. And so when I joined the Athletes Commission of the IOC, I really wanted to be that voice for athlete moms, and just take away one less thing for them to worry about in the pressure of competition,” Felix said via statement.
The Pampers Nursery in the Athletes Village at the Paris Olympics will serve as a safe space to ensure parent athletes are cared for and supported while competing. The nursery is designed for children who are of diaper-wearing age and will serve as a comfortable and calm environment where parents can have access to safe play areas, changing facilities and private breastfeeding spaces.
This isn’t Felix’s first partnership with Pampers either, they have also teamed up to donate up to one million diapers to support preemie families at Children’s Hospitals. The nursery at this year’s Olympics is just an extension of the work Felix has already been doing and a doubling down on her commitment to provide more maternal health access to women athletes.
