They’ve earned it!
A group of Baltimore students were rewarded with full-ride scholarships to college, BET news reports.
This month, five Baltimore City students learned that they would be getting their college education paid for in full. McDaniel College and the CollegeBound Foundation surprised the students with scholarships, noting all of their hard work and effort. Each of the chosen students are at the top of their class in their schools.
Scholarship recipients include Azzure Brooks (Coppin Academy), Jay Artis (Green Street Academy), Kevin Quintanilla {Academy for College and Career Exploration, Whitney Patterson and John Anthony Pitogo, who both attend Baltimore Polytechnic Institute.
The students all said they are extremely grateful and shocked to have received such a surprise.
“I’m honestly astonished. I’m really surprised that I was able to get the scholarship,” said Patterson.
“It’s extremely exciting because [McDaniel] is one of my top choices so it feels great to, you know, get the scholarship,” added Pitogo.
Brooks also spoke about receiving the scholarship, speaking in gratitude about all of the hard work finally paying off.
“Even when there were days when I didn’t want to get up and go to school and still going to school, just paid off. I plan on majoring in cybersecurity, and I definitely plan to commit to McDaniel now that I have a scholarship,” said Brooks.
Congratulations to all of the scholarship recipients!
