Nine-year-old Jelani Jones of Fredericksburg, Virginia is proof that success has no age requirement.
As the owner of Lani Boo Bath, Jones runs her own successful bath product line that services customers around the country.
According to Atlanta Black Star, Jones’ inspiration behind the line started after a visit to a local farmers market when her favorite vendor invited her to a class on how to make bath products. After the class, Jones discussed the idea of a starting her own business with her mother and the rest is history.
After garnering start-up money for the ingredients from her parents, the 9-year-old entrepreneur was able to make her first batch of products and used Facebook as her platform to advertise them. Eventually, her clientele expanded from friends, family and church members, to clients all across the country.
“The community has been amazing! People always say how proud they are of me and how I am inspiring them and how they are considering their children’s ideas more,” Jones told the Atlanta Black Star.
As a straight “A” student with a successful business under her belt, Jones says she’s learned the value of time management and how important it is to have self-care days.
“Sometimes, I have self-care Sundays where I enjoy some of my bath bombs and soaps. I also love to hang out with my best friends Kyndal and Destinee, who also have businesses named D’s Tees and Kindles Kandles,” Jones said.
Jones’ advice to other young entrepreneurs who want to get their business off the ground is to just believe in themselves and gain a support system.
She added: “Most kids are already creative. They not only need to hear that they can do anything, but parents need to help them be successful.”
