Joshua Lewis is the founder of Kin Seltzer Inc., a Kansas City-based seltzer company that specializes in 100% natural fruit ingredients and an array of flavors, Black Enterprise reports.
The seltzer is pretty popular in Kansas City and can be found across bars, restaurants, clubs, and in retail stores. And the now the brand has received a large investment from retired Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Dezman Moses — who just invested $3 million into the company.
“Dezman and I met over a decade ago and became friends. As his entrepreneurial grind increased, it just made sense for us to finally connect and see what we could get done business-wise. The timing was right, the branding is right, and what we’re building is right. It’s something that he’s super-interested in,” explained Lewis.
Moses spent four seasons in the NFL, three of which were with the Kansas City Chiefs. After his retirement in 2016, he has dabbled in several other sectors, including real estate, podcasting and sports analysis. With his most recent investment, Moses will join the Kin Seltzer board and receive equity in the company, helping to scale the brand and take it to the next level.
“For him, it was about helping Black-owned brands to be more visible and make more money in these spaces. He feels like there was a gap just like I did, the gap that needs to be covered in the party nightlife drink beverage space,” Lewis said.
With Moses’ $3 million investment, Kin Seltzer will now focus on expanding distribution and operations. The goal is to widen its imprint, attracting even more customers and boosting sales.
