Houston has a new Black-owned hotel that is making quite the statement in the east downtown area of the city.
According to Community Impact, a press release from the office of Houston Mayor, Sylvester Turner, recognizes the Wanderstay Boutique Hotel as the only Black-owned hotel in the Houston-area.
The hotel is owned by Deidre Mathis, who founded the Wanderstay Hybrid Hospitality Group. She previously opened the Wanderstay hostel in the Third Ward area of Houston in 2018. And the company’s website names her as the first Black woman in the United States to own a hostel.
The new adults-only hotel features 10 rooms that are perfect for either business travelers or those taking leisure trips.
Hotel amenities include a towel warmer in each bathroom, a pillow bar for guests, complimentary breakfast, complimentary luggage storage, a conference room, and high-speed wireless internet.
Small pets are also welcome at the hotel.
The hotel held a soft-opening back in April.
And the city’s Mayor was in attendance at the hotel’s official grand opening on August 28.
You can visit the Wanderstay Boutique Hotel website for information on the hotel.
