What a great way to celebrate life!
Chance the Rapper celebrated his 29th birthday by giving away 1,500 free meals to families in Chicago, Today.com reports.
Chance the Rapper is no stranger to giving back in his hometown of Chicago. In 2017, he launched an arts and literature fund for Chicago Public Schools. That same year, he donated more than $2 million to 20 different schools across the city. That also was the year when he celebrated his 24th birthday by throwing a party that raised $100,000 for his nonprofit SocialWorks, which focuses on “empower[ing] the youth through arts, education and civic engagement.
The rapper spoke directly with reporters about the inspiration behind his good works back in 2020, saying, “I think it’s indirectly my faith. I get a lot of my sense of understanding and kindness from my mom. And then my dad and his side of the family were all community organizers. My great grandmother marched with [Dr. Martin Luther] King and organized. My grandmother worked for Harold Washington when he ran for mayor of Chicago.”
Now the “Child of God” rapper is back at it, celebrating his recent 29th birthday by giving away 1,500 free meals to Chicago families in need ahead of the Easter holiday. Chance took to social media on Saturday, April 16th, to let Chicago residents know he would be giving the meals away in partnership with Social Works at 8560 S. Cottage Grove.
The event turned out to be a success with thousands of people in attendance for the drive-up giveaway. In addition to the free food, various characters were present entertaining the kids along with a larger-than-life caricature of Chance himself, complete with his signature 3 hat. Alongside the meals, families were also given cups of “Mint Chocolate Chance,” a new ice cream flavor the rapper helped create in partnership with Ben & Jerry’s.
Chance also took some time to share childhood pictures of himself on his birthday with his mom and brother, noting that the best gift anyone could give him was to give to someone else.
“He’s 29. Best gift you can get me is showing someone they’re a child of God today,” he captioned the photos.
Cheers to another beautiful trip around the sun, Chance! Thanks for all you do!
