Each one, teach one!
Briana Ambre Houston is an educator and former public school teacher with nine years of experience in education and social work. Holding a bachelor’s degree in family and child advocacy and a master’s in education, Houston formerly worked as a public school teacher before deciding some students needed more. The parent of a child with Autism, Houston, understood firsthand the challenges students on the spectrum, those with ADHD, and gifted students faced on their learning journey. That’s when she decided to resign from her job as a teacher to launch her own micro-school for students in grades K-5.
Differentiated Education and Learning Academy (DELA) is “an enrichment learning academy” that Houston launched in August 2022 that focuses on tailoring instruction for each student across four major content areas: math, ELA, science, and social studies. Houston has a staff of professionals who help facilitate learning for the scholars while prioritizing educational welfare for the students. Houston focuses on innovative teaching strategies, activities, and resources that help equip students, educators, and parents to create a positive learning experience and social impact for young minds.
“I started this program…after deciding not to renew my contract teaching [within] public school. With limited funding, I used the resources I currently owned [my home] and transformed my garage into a classroom. I did this renovation completely solo with the faith and determination to nurture, educate, and inspire our youth with no limitations. I am now able to use my creativity to provide scholars with rigorous, engaging, differentiated lessons that are tailored to meet the optimal individual needs of every child,” Houston captioned a social post.
DELA offers an after-school enrichment program in her home state of Georgia, downloadable guides and tools for parents and teachers, homework interventions, live one-on-one coaching, lesson plans, and classroom management tools. Houston also offers several activity books and a YouTube channel with dozens of educational videos boasting over 70,000 subscribers.
Houston’s prioritization of play, fun, and even music in the teaching of social-emotional skills, phonics, and arithmetic helps her stand out. With more than 300,000 followers on Instagram alone, she’s become a hit with community members looking to enhance the educational experience for their young ones.
