Howard University is set to make waves this fall with its 2024 Hip Hop Studies Conference, bringing together artists, scholars, and enthusiasts from around the globe to explore the genre’s rich history and impact. Taking place on @howard1867’s Washington D.C. campus from November 15-17, the second annual conference will feature panels, workshops, and performances, continuing the legacy of Howard’s first hip-hop symposium from the 1990s, according to the school’s website.

This year, Howard is also celebrating the introduction of a new Hip Hop Studies minor, starting next spring. The program will offer students a chance to delve into hip-hop culture through a range of interdisciplinary courses, including African American Studies, Music, Dance, and more.

Last year’s intial conference, held in celebration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, set the stage for this year’s event with the theme “Hip-Hop at its Crossroads.” “Hip-hop has transcended, and we loved the academic component, so we hope that we can incorporate something where we can teach it,” event organizer, Benita King said about the @howardhiphop event in the school’s website. “We want to be able to incorporate the culture into various areas and we want to adopt that at Howard.”
