Another member of the iconic Jackson family is headed to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
On Thursday, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced Janet Jackson as one of its 2019 inductees. “The Jackson 5” (the legendary boy band made up of Janet’s older brothers Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, Michael and Tito) was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Then four years later, in 2001, Michael was inducted as a solo artist.
In order to be eligible for nomination, artists must have released their first recording at least 25 years prior to their nomination. The final selections are then made by the highest number of votes from fans, historians, living inductees, and music industry professionals, who take into consideration the “artist’s musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation and superiority in style and technique,” the Hall explained.
