This is a defining moment for the brand!
The Olympics are set to kick off this week, and Mielle Organics has just been officially named the textured hair care product of the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. Mielle President Omar Goff made the announcement on social media, highlighting the historical significance of the partnership for Black women athletes and the brand’s continued commitment to highlight the beauty of natural hair worldwide.
“[Mielle] will be in Paris making sure that each athlete AND their family – regardless of hair texture – can look and feel their best to help them perform [at] their peak! At Mielle, we recognize the historical significance of the appearance of Black women’s hair at the Paris Olympics, and we’re proud to amplify the representation and inclusivity of textured hair,” wrote Goff via LinkedIn.
A pivotal moment for the brand, the news comes just one year after Mielle made history as the first textured hair care partner for the WNBA. Founder Monique Rodriquez took to social media to share her thoughts about the brand’s Olympic partnership. She noted that her goal is to provide ease and comfort for athletes who have unfairly had to worry about their appearance when they should solely focus on their performance.
“As long as I can remember, Black women have been criticized about their hair in sports. It’s so easy to criticize and put others down instead of being solution focused. Well at Mielle we are always focused on solutions and creating a platform where athletes can be themselves, and have a brand that understands them. From one queen to another. Athletes shouldn’t have to worry about their hair routine when they are miles away from home…Together, we will continue redefining traditional standards of beauty to be more inclusive and reflective of all textured hair,” said Rodriguez.
Now, they have expanded their imprint in the sports world, with Goff saying that the brand will continue to “lead the charge.”
“This is a huge moment for us, and our mission – which goes beyond the Games. Mielle was created to enable (via our amazing formulas), inspire, and empower individuals worldwide to embrace their natural hair and feel confident in celebrating the beauty and cultural expression of textured hair. We will continue to lead the charge for redefining traditional standards of beauty to be more inclusive and reflective of all textured hair,” said Goff.
Mielle has now set up a salon in Olympic Village, where athletes from all over the world can get their hair refreshed and rejuvenated just before competing. Rodriguez called the moment a dream come true.
“Here’s to high quality for high performers…Dreams do come true, [representing] for the brown and Black little girls to show what may seem impossible is possible,” she wrote.
