The National Museum of African American History and Culture is celebrating a major milestone just in time for its 7th anniversary.

On September 30, the museum announced that it had officially welcomed its 10 millionth on-person visitor.

The major moment came almost one week after the museum celebrated the 7th anniversary of its grand opening back on September 24, 2016.

NMAAHC took to its social media pages to share the big news.

And WJLA reports that the 10 millionth visitor on September 30 was greeted by deputy director for NMAAHC, Michelle Commander, with her giving them a special gift bag and a one-year membership to the museum.

“I am thrilled to welcome our 10 millionth guest to the museum, and together, honor seven years of safeguarding history, establishing memories, and inspiring minds,” said Kevin Young, the National Museum of African American History and Culture’s Andrew W. Mellon Director, in a statement. “Our 10 millionth visitor is a symbol of our enduring purpose, and a tribute to the efforts of the past seven years, not to mention the century-long struggle for a monument to African American sacrifice and achievement on the National Mall.”
