Regina King is filming in her hometown!
A new movie about Shirley Chisholm starring Regina King just began filming in Cincinnati, Cincinnati.com reports.
Regina King is set to star in and produce “Shirley,” a new film that tells the story of Shirley Chisholm, the nation’s first Black Congresswoman and the first Black woman to run for president for the Democratic Party.
The film will highlight Chisholm’s 1972 presidential campaign and give an “intimate, behind-the-scenes portrait of the ground-breaking political leader during a seminal period in modern American history.”
King is a lauded actress, recently making her directorial debut and receiving numerous Emmy Awards and an Academy Award for her role in “If Beale Street Could Talk.” The Cincinnati native sent her very first Emmy Award back to her hometown for safekeeping with her mother and grandmother. Now she’s returning home to begin filming for the new movie alongside John Ridley who serves as writer and director.
While no set locations for filming have been announced, casting director D.Lynn Meyers did share via social media that they’re looking for lots of people to fill their paid extra positions. If you’re interested, send photos, contact info and clothing sizes to lynnmeyersextras2021@gmail.com.
No word yet on when “Shirley” will be hitting our screens, but we cannot wait!
