It’s a new day in sports media!
Former Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl champion Ryan Clark is poised to redefine the sports media landscape with his new deal with ESPN, as reported by Front Office Sports. Over the past decade, Clark has honed his skills as a sports analyst, gracing the screens of hit shows like NFL Live, Get Up, First Take, and SportsCenter. Clark’s versatility is evident as he also hosts the CW Network’s Inside the NFL and runs his highly popular podcast, The Pivot. His hard work and dedication were recognized last year when he earned an Emmy for “Outstanding Personality/Studio Analyst.”
3 years ago I signed an extension with ESPN. I was so grateful for more time. I excited to prove I was worth more, felt I deserved more. We disagreed, & that’s ok. Breaking the mold of sports analysts, the New Orleans native, Ryan Clark, took to social media to share his free-agent status. In a candid move, Clark openly discussed his contract status, providing a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the sports media industry. He also shared some of the challenges he faced with his last extension, sparking a social conversation that affirmed Clark’s status as a heavyweight in the game
“It wasn’t what I wanted. I realized I had to do more. Honestly, I felt played. You know the worst thing for anybody from New Orleans is to feel played. I felt like I deserved something that they didn’t feel like I deserved…And I said that day that in three years, I will be the best in the world doing this,” Clark said.
Now, it looks like his move paid off. The 44-year-old is set to ink a new deal with ESPN that will make him one of the highest-paid NFL analysts on the network. After urging his employers “to pay the piper” two weeks prior, Clark seems to be in the midst of finalizing a deal that sources say is worth over $2 million annually.
While Clark has not yet announced the details of the new deal, his unprecedented contract renewal, alongside the ever-changing landscape of sports media that is now seeing Black sports personalities dominate in droves, is proof that we’re on the brink of a new horizon—one that’s more inclusive, diverse, and, of course, more entertaining than ever.
