Have seen the latest cover of “Vogue” magazine? It features tennis great Serena Williams and her baby girl Alexis Olympia, who with this cover, became the youngest Vogue cover star ever.
On Wednesday morning, Williams took to social media to share the cover along with a sweet message, writing on Instagram:
“When I first saw this @voguemagazine cover it brought tears to my eyes. All Vogue covers are special but to share this one with my beautiful daughter @olympiaohanian also the youngest Vogue cover star makes it moment I will never forget. The article is a must read.”
In it, Williams discusses marriage, her comeback and her experience of motherhood, explaining: “Sometimes I get really down and feel like, ‘Man, I can’t do this.’ It’s that same negative attitude I have on the court sometimes. I guess that’s just who I am. No one talks about the low moments ― the pressure you feel, the incredible letdown every time you hear the baby cry.”
Even so, Williams always aspired to be a mom, telling Vogue, “Now that I’m 36 and I look at my baby, I remember that this was also one of my goals when I was little, before tennis took over, when I was still kind of a normal girl who played with dolls.”
Williams was set to compete at this year’s Australian Open where she achieved the record of 23 grand slam singles titles last year while being 8 weeks pregnant. However, due to not feeling prepared she withdrew from the tournament. Nevertheless, Williams still has her sights on earning 25 grand slams.
According to Vogue, “25 Grand Slam victories…would surpass the record of 24 held by the Australian tennis legend Margaret Court and make (Williams) the undisputed greatest of all time.”
