Tasha Butts has an extensive career in the basketball industry. She played in the WNBA with the Minnesota Lynx in 2004 then took the opportunity to play overseas briefly in 2005. Her WNBA career also includes the Charlotte Sting and Houston Comets.
The one thing that has always had her heart is coaching. She coached at her alma mater, University of Tennessee, Duquesne University, UCLA, LSU, and most recently Georgia Tech. Now Tasha Butts is taking the lead as head coach Georgetown University’s women basketball team.
Georgetown held an event to introduce the new coach to the community and Tasha had the chance to share a few words. She stated, “I am absolutely honored to be the head coach for Georgetown women’s basketball.” Butts continued, “It has always been a dream of mine and to be awarded this opportunity to coach at such a prestigious institution, it is beyond any words. I’m elated that I will have the opportunity to mentor, develop and coach these young women.
Butts added, “I am super excited about this new journey, it’s going to be an amazing ride and we will do this together.”
Georgia Tech head coach Nell Fortner issued a loving farewell to Butts stating, “We wish Tasha the very best in her first head coaching opportunity at Georgetown University. We believe she will thrive and are super excited for this opportunity for her. It’s been a pleasure working with Tasha, and we wish her nothing but the best.”
