The odds of being born on Leap Day are one in 1,461. A family in Minnesota beat those odds three times in a row!
On February 29th this year, family matriarch Elizabeth Stevens turned 88 years old (or 22 if you’re going by Leap Day standards). Her niece, Tonya Berzat, turned 56 and her granddaughter, Antonia Stevens, turned 44. All three were born on a Leap Day. How did three members of one family end up with the same rare birthdate? “I guess we were all doing the nasty at the same time,” Elizabeth shared with KARE11 Minnesota.
Even though their official birthday only comes around once every four years, they make sure to take a chance to celebrate every year on either February 28 or March 1, or sometimes both days! This year, Antonia wanted to do something special and took herself on a cruise. And every year–Leap Day or not– they reflect on the blessings they share as a family.
“I am blessed,” Elizabeth reflected. “I’m blessed to have six kids, 22 grand, 13 greats and one great-great, so I am truly blessed.”
“I share a birthday with my cousin and my grandmother.” Antonia added. “And to be able to share this day with them I think is just really special, and I love them very much.”
