Angel Reese celebrated her mother’s birthday in a way that left her—and the world—speechless. During a heartfelt episode of her podcast show Unapologetically Angel, Reese surprised her mother, Angel Webb Reese, with a life-changing gift: a fully paid-off mortgage and the option to retire, People reports.
“Well, it’s your birthday today,” Reese said, just before a birthday cake was presented. “You said that if your mortgage was paid off that you would retire or you can pick if you want to work still—so your mortgage today has been paid.”
In that moment, her mother’s face turned from joy to shock, nearly dropping the cake before a production crew member quickly took it away. Overcome with emotion, Mama Angel struggled to find words, shaking her head before finally asking, “Oh my God! Are you serious?”
Visibly emotional, Webb Reese was truly touched by the gift. Reese also shared that she plans to buy a house in Chicago this year, telling her mom she’s welcome to stay with her anytime she wants. As the crew broke into song to celebrate her birthday, Mama Angel was brought to tears, Reese pausing from the mic to embrace her mom and just thank her for all she’s done.

A monumental gesture, the moment was about gratitude. The 22-year-old Chicago Sky star was selected as the 7th pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, and has made waves both on and off the court. While she hasn’t publicly disclosed her net worth, her endorsements alone speak volumes. Between 2022 and 2023, Reese secured an estimated $1.7 million in brand deals with major companies like Reebok, PlayStation, and Amazon, proving that her influence extends far beyond basketball. Reese called the ability to retire her mom one of her biggest life goals, emphasizing that she can still work if she wants to stay busy, but she doesn’t have to anymore.
“That was my biggest goal in life—to retire you and pay your mortgage or whatever you wanted, for you not to work,” Reese told her mom. “You’re a hard-working woman. You don’t need me for no money.”
Mama Angel, still reeling from the surprise, confessed that she was already thrilled with the Four Seasons gift card she had received earlier that day. But Reese had bigger plans. “Now you know I come harder than that,” she joked.
