Truly a sweet surprise!
A Chicago man, Vamarr Hunter, recently uncovered a family connection that no one could have imagined. For years, Hunter regularly visited Give Me Some Sugah Bakery just a block away from his home in the South Shore neighborhood, drawn by its lemon bars, chocolate chip cookies, and warm atmosphere. But it was more than the baked goods — he felt a genuine connection with Lenore Lindsey, the bakery’s owner. “She interacts on a personal level,” Hunter shared with NBC Chicago.
At age 35, Hunter learned he was adopted and decided to search for his birth mother. With the help of a genealogist, he discovered her identity and was shocked to receive a call from a familiar number — Lenore’s bakery. Hearing her voice on the other end of the line brought a rush of emotions, and Hunter was overcome with joy and disbelief. Lindsey, who had placed Hunter for adoption as a teenager and left the adoption open, was elated to have her son back in her life.
“I love my son, and the fact that I have him now in these later years…that’s just God,” she shared, tearing up.

Today, their bond is stronger than ever. Hunter helps run “Give Me Some Sugah Bakery” alongside Lindsey, turning an already cherished place into a true family legacy.
