He is more than deserving!
Good Morning America (GMA) highlighted North Carolina Central University (NCCU) football player Jessie Malit’s community service, ABC 11 News reports.
Malit is an NCCU linebacker who lives by the University’s motto of “truth and service.” A political science major, Malit has been focused on contributing to his community locally and at large by any means necessary. During the 2020 election, he rallied 300 student-athletes, including the entire NCCU football team, getting them to register and vote. Lucy Mason, the student-athlete leadership and development coordinator, calls Malit “one of a kind.”
“He’s done a great job of representing North Carolina Central University both on and off the field. He exemplifies what Eagle Pride is and Eagle Excellence,” Coach Trei Oliver said.
In addition to his service on campus, Malit has been helping those in Kenya, where his mom Daisy is from.
“There are some kids who can barely afford books, and Jessie, being the person he is in the community, he was like, ‘oh, this is something great that we can give back,” Daisy said.
Once Malit set his mind to it, he quickly collected and donated 400 books that he gave to his mother’s home village. To support his efforts, the nonprofit organization First Book also donated 1,600 books to Jessie’s cause, helping him surpass his goal of 1,000 books.
The 6-foot-3 defensive lineman was recently invited to appear on Good Morning America for what he thought was an appearance on behalf of College GameDay. But GMA had other plans, surprising him by flying his mom Daisy in and recognizing his work in the community.
“I’m really humbled to be in this position that I am, and I just want to keep being able to do what I do,” Malit said.
Thank you for your service Jessie! Because of you, we can!
