In a heartwarming tribute on social media, former First Lady Michelle Obama celebrated her mother, Marian Robinson, on what would have been her 87th birthday.
Michelle reminisced about their humble beginnings in a two-bedroom apartment and DIY hair sessions with an oven and hot comb. Despite these modest circumstances, Michelle’s favorite quality of her mother, who passed away at 86 this past May, was her unwavering sense of self-worth and that she always felt enough.
“And because she felt like she was enough, she could help others feel that too. She did that countless times for me and my brother Craig. She did it for her family and friends. She did it for the staff at the White House. She did it for everyone she knew,” Michelle wrote.
Today, on her mother’s birthday, Michelle says she is celebrating “the immense power there was in her enoughness” while also vowing to carry on her legacy of lifting others up the best she can.
Happy Heavenly Birthday, Ms. Marian!
