Talk about a moment!
A regular family photo at the cherry blossoms on D.C.’s Tidal Basin turned into a once-in-a-lifetime moment for one D.C. family, NBC News reports. While having her two children pose for a photo, the family was shocked to realize that Forever President Barack Obama was actually captured walking in the background of their shots. Mom Portia Moore said she was so preoccupied with the moment that she actually didn’t notice until afterward.
Photographer Briana Inell was capturing the photo of Moore’s daughter and son when it happened.
“Of course, I’m paying attention to my son, making sure he doesn’t run into the water. He’s 20 months old, Moore recalled.
“My husband’s like, ‘That’s Obama!’ I didn’t know what he was saying. I was like, ‘Yeah, whatever. I’m looking at Preston right now,” she continued.
But as the final shutter clicked, Moore picked up her son and doubled back to clarify what her husband was trying to tell her.
“What did you just say?,” she asked.
“That’s Obama!,” he enthusiastically repeated.
That’s when it all clicked and the entire family began hoping that they got the magic moment on camera.
“I was like, ‘Well, did we get a picture?!’ We went to the photographer and she scrolled back and we’re like, ‘We got it!’” Moore explained.
Right there in all his glory was the former 44th President of the United States. Donned in a baseball cap, Obama could be seen clearly strolling along the Tidal Basin, right in the background of Belle and Preston’s family photo. The moment was both moving, and unbelievable, and one the family is sure to keep near and dear to their hearts for generations to come.
“Usually, I’m editing all of the tourists out of the backgrounds for all my clients anyways, but this is the one photo that I won’t be editing out this person,” said Inell.
Moore took to social media to share the moment with her followers along with the now viral photo. Surprisingly, Obama saw it and reposted.
“Preston and Belle, I hope you enjoyed peak bloom! My bad for stepping into the shot,” Obama wrote.
Moore said it’s a moment her family will never forget.
“Look who strolled by in our picture for our family Cherry Blossom photo shoot!…This story is one to remember and the picture is a family heirloom (literally). And nope, we did not bother him on his much needed peaceful stroll..Such an epic core memory formed for our entire family.”
