What a full-circle moment!
Stephen A. Smith, an alumnus of Salem State University, made a special appearance at Howard University, joined by his co-host Shannon Sharpe from ESPN’s hit morning sports debate show “First Take.” This event was their first stop at an HBCU for the football season, broadcasting live from The Yard before the ‘Battle of the Real H.U.’ game between Howard and Hampton University on Saturday.
During the broadcast, @stephenasmith experienced a full-circle moment with Howard student and aspiring broadcast journalist Harmony Bailey. Fourteen years ago, Bailey interviewed Smith as a child, asking him about Jesse Jackson. Now, she was one of the few students able to pose a question during this leg of the “First Take on the Road” tour, which spotlights Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), the Hilltop reports.

When Smith recognized Bailey after viewing an old clip of their previous interview, the moment became deeply emotional. The two embraced as he answered her question about his best advice for aspiring journalists. His words? “Do what you have to do, so you can do what you want to do.”
