He did it for his mama!
21-year-old Xavier Worthy is a rookie wide receiver with the Kansas City Chiefs. Recently, the team faced off against the New Orleans Saints during Monday Night Football, but for Worthy, the game came second to his mom’s birthday celebration, Fox News reports.
Worthy only carried the ball once the entire night, but he only needed one time. As Travis Kelce lined up in formation, he handed the ball off to Worthy, who ran it into the end zone for a three-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. While fans cheered and teammates celebrated, Worthy made a beeline over to the stands, handing the ball off to his mother and embracing her before returning to her seat.
The sweet exchange was caught by ESPN broadcasters and marked Worthy’s second rushing touchdown of the season. The cherry on top was that the Chiefs defeated the Saints 26-13. It was a happy birthday for Worthy’s mom, indeed, and a reminder that her unwavering support and sacrifice have finally paid off!
“Most people never get to meet their favorite player…I raised mine!,” his mom posted to social media after the touching moment.
